Andrea Louise gave birth to Carly in New York City, USA on June 25, 1945. Her mother was a civil rights activist and a singer. Her father’s name is Richard Simon. He was a professional pianist and had co-founded a publishing house. The name of the publishing house was the “Simon & Schuster” publishing house. Carly grew up with her sister Lucy Simon. She had formed a musical group with her sister named “The Simon Sisters.”

Education 

Carly did her schooling in Riverdale Country School. She also joined Sarah Lawrence College for further studies. But she dropped out of college to pursue a musical career.

Career

Carly released her first solo album and started her career in 1971. The album had her name “Carly Simon.” The same year she released her second album called “Anticipation.” Then, she came up with the third album “No Secrets” in 1972. The album was a commercially successful album. It included her most famous song “You’re So Vain.” She received a nomination for the song in “Grammy Awards” for the different categories in 1974. 

Moreover, Carly released her fourth album “Hotcakes” in 1974. Then, she came up with other albums like “Playing Possum” in 1975, “Another Passenger” in 1976, “Boys in the Trees” in 1978, and “Spy” in 1979.  Carly also released “Come Upstairs” in 1980, “Torch” in 1981, and “Hello Big Man” in 1983 but didn’t get much success. “Coming around Again” released in 1987 was the successful album.

Carly was not very much productive regarding music during the time if the 1980s and 1990s. During the period, she was focusing on her writing. Likewise, she released her debut book “Amy the Dancing Bear” in 1989. Then, she came up with the second book “The Boys of the Bells” in 1990, the third one “The Fisherman’s Song” in 1991, and the fourth one “The Nighttime Chauffeur” in 1993.

Moreover, Carly came up with “Bedroom Tapes” in 2000, and “Christmas is Almost Here” in 2002. In the same decade, she released albums like “Moonlight Serenade” in 2005, “Into White” in 2007, and “Never been Gone” in 2009.

Likewise, Carly had published a book called “Boys in the Trees: A Memoir” on November 24, 2015. It was an autobiographical book focusing the days from childhood to thirty-five years of age.  She released another book titling “Touched by the Sun: My friendship with Jackie” in October 2019. It was her second memoir focusing on her friendship with First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis.

Carly Simon married singer James Taylor on November 3, 1972. Carly gave birth to a son named Ben and a daughter named Sally. They are popular musicians like their parents. Unfortunately, Carly and James divorced in 1983.  Then after four years, she married James Hart on December 23, 1987. The couple divorced in 2007. Carly is a breast cancer survivor. In the year 1997, she got the diagnosis of the disease.
